Day 1 of Alaska brings me to this “wilderness lodge” in Denali. Also known as “middle of nowhere, Alaska.”

The day begins with renting a car after landing in Anchorage.

Driving around on the streets of Anchorage on a cloudy and rainy morning.

Driving around downtown… Anchorage is much bigger than I imagined but 30minutes is more than enough to see everything there.

Like most downtowns…it’s mostly financial buildings.

Oh…and the oil companies.

Most gas stations in Alaska only have regular and diesel.

Viewing downtown from afar.

Getting some lunch after seeing the city. Ordered a nice cup of hot corn chowder.

And had the best fish and chips in my life. Halibut fried to perfection.
Honestly…after eating this no other fish and chips can satisfy my cravings for fried fish goodness.

Fueling up after lunch before heading off into the wilderness.

The last signs of civilization before heading off.

The road to Denali was a lonely one. Two lanes going opposite directions and trees every corner.

After a few hours of driving, we arrived in Denali.

Had a fish taco for dinner.

And a cup of salmon chowder.

The lodge had some pretty nice mountain views.

Just relaxing after a long day.

Did I mention its 10pm? Alaskan summers equal long days and short nights.
End of Day 1…stay tuned for more.
